What is porcelain?  A type of ceramic body, generally believed to have been discovered by the Chinese in the 13th century and then rediscovered by the Europeans in the 17th century, which is known for its fine granularity, high firing temperature, translucence in certain lighting, its durability, strength, and its ability to retain and reproduce intricate details.   It is a beautiful, although difficult, medium to work in and consequently enjoys a reputation for high intrinsic value.
